WE HAD THE ENTIRE FLOOR TO OURSELVES.
Mississippi River Cruise
We booked this cruise as a prelude to a Carnival cruise. Prior to reserving, I called the reservation desk for the Creole Queen and asked specifically if it is as wheelchair accessible. I was told that it most definately was. With this information, I booked the evening cruise with dinner.
Upon arriving, we boarded the cruise. We were ushered to a stairwell and was told that we has to use a stair lift. However, the weight limit was only 500lbs. Since I have to use a power wheelchair, we realized that the combined weight of myself and the chair would exceed the capacity. We were told that the people who sell tickets do not inform guests of the weight limit and that the misinformation provided was a common theme.
The crew at this point were extremely accommodating and went well above any type of ADA-accommodation ever experienced. In short, the crew was able to get me down the flight of stairs by providing a ton of assistance. My wheelchair remained at the top of the stairs.
Once seated at a table, the wait staff and crew were very helpful and checked in on me often.
If you have a disability and a power wheelchair, you likely exceed the weight limit. We were told that they might be getting an upgrade, or even a new boat in 2018, which may work better for those of us who have a disability.
I would NOT recommend this activity if you use a power wheelchair.
I would NOT recommend this activity if you cannot stand, take a few steps or require significant assistance transferring.
