WorldMark Seattle - The Camlin
May 22-23, 2016
Room 302, 1-bedroom suite
The Camlin, a historic hotel in downtown Seattle, is owned by WorldMark. Unlike other WorldMark properties, this location operates very much like an upscale hotel.
Since The Camlin is a historic hotel, the wheelchair entrance is at the rear entrance to the building. Upon arriving, guests will use a call box to gain entry and will then need to take the elevator to the lobby where the check-in desk is located.
I had previously stayed at The Camlin, which at that time had the best roll-in shower I had ever seen! Upon check-in at this visit, we were assigned to an accessible 1-bedroom suite with bathtub and grab-bars. Although we reserved a unit with a roll-in shower, we were not given this type of room. The night we checked in we were told that the hotel had removed all roll-in showers during a recent renovation. However, upon check-out, we were told that the room type we requested was not available at this time due to recent renovation causing flooding issues related to the roll-in shower. Regardless of the reason we should have been informed of this prior to arriving. The evening staff did everything within their power to try to rectify the situation. Ultimately, a shower bench was purchased for me to use.
Aside from the roll-in shower issue, the 1-bedroom suite met my needs. The bedroom was large enough for my wheelchair and the table in the kitchen area was at a perfect height for eating. There is plenty of space in the bathroom for a wheelchair to turn around and wheelchair users can get under the sink!
The swimming pool and hot tub both have lifts, which I did not use during our one-night stay.
Seattle has many taxi companies, where several hundred taxis are able to accommodate a wheelchair. It is easy to get around town. In addition, the city just completed its underground transit system, which complements the accessible bus system and monorail. With a bit of research beforehand, it is easy to commute around the city with plentiful accessible transportation options.
