WorldMark New Orleans
January 4 - 6, 2018 & January 11 - 12, 2018
I went to Worldmark New Orleans. The property was beautiful. A bellman greeted us at the entry door and bellman service is provided 24-hours per day. The property is close to restaurants along Charleston Street and it was easy to enjoy great food by traveling there in my wheelchair. New Orleans is having a problem since the ground is sinking and this makes sidewalks very uneven in spots. The trolley runs in front of Worldmark but this line is not accessible because it has historic trolley cars. To venture away from Worldmark, you will need to obtain your own transportation or will need to coordinate with the only person that operates an accessible taxi. (Refer to transportation section of my web page for further information.)
The room was very nice and very big. There is a lot of space to accommodate a wheelchair. Unfortunately, the dining room table was too low because it did not accommodate the height of my wheelchair. In the bedroom the mattress is very high and we were unable to transfer me onto the bed. Fortunately there is a pull-out sofa/sleeper in the living room and this is where I slept for our the duration of our stay. The sofa/sleeper was comfortable!
The bathroom has a great, fold-down bench for easy transfers. The bathroom was big, the toilet was ADA height and it was easy to move around with my wheelchair.
Unlike other Worldmark locations, this property was “hotel” style. We did not have a washer/dryer in the unit. A “coin-operated” laundry facility is available for those who need it but it is located on a different floor. The trash/recycling area is located on the main floor. The main elevator’s in the lobby are very small. Guests can walk behind the main lobby elevators and discover a larger freight elevator. After locating the freight elevator, we used this as our means of entering and exiting the building. The freight elevator goes to the second and third floor to accommodate those needing an accessible room.
The outdoor pool and hot tub did not have a lift that we noticed, but when we were there it was 32 degrees outside and we did not venture to the courtyard area (which also included a barbecue, seating area, etc.). This looks like a great area to use to spend with family and friends in warmer weather.
We would definitely return to this facility despite having to sleep on the sofa/sleeper. We felt we were in a 5-star hotel based on the professionalism of its staff (they knew everyone by name!) and the outstanding quality of the property and rooms.
