Wyndham at Waikiki Beach Walk
April 18 - 25, 2017
We really enjoyed the Wyndham Resort at Waikiki Beach. It was centrally located near the beach (one block away). There were countless restaurants and shopping right out the entry. The resort is also close to movie theaters, the mall, and public transportation. There is a cement walkway along the beach and you can easily watch Friday fireworks next to the beach. The sister resort has a great breakfast buffet three blocks away. If you don’t want to go that far, there is a Denny’s open 24-hours right next to the resort. The resort had a pool and hot tub but was undergoing remodeling. The resort requires valet parking at $52/day. It is worth paying the $52/day as there is no parking in Waikiki, especially for wheelchair mini vans.
When we checked in, the reception confirmed we had an accessible room. We did not. It took two and half days working with Owner Care to correct the situation. We finally got a newly remodeled accessible room with a roll-in shower. Since we stayed in a standard room and an accessible room, I can note that the accessible room was bigger and had less furniture to accommodate wheelchairs.
During our week in Oahu, we rented a van from Wheelers of Honolulu and went to the Dole Plantation, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and Waialua Coffee and Chocolate Company. The Dole Plantation and the Polynesian Cultural Center provided chartered tours, if desired. The Polynesian Cultural Center will even pick you up from the airport and take you to your hotel after the tour. We went to Pearl Harbor but did that through a chartered tour booked directly with the Pearl Harbor which provided an accessible bus.
