Headlands Lodge, Pacific City, Oregon
February 25 to February 26, 2018
Headlands Lodge & Spa is a new luxury hotel that overlooks the ocean in Pacific City, Oregon. What makes this resort so unique is that every single room has an ocean view. This hotel sits on the same property of the Cape Kiwanda Timeshare homes and only a short distance to the Pelican Brew Pub. Amenities include room service, a restaurant serving all meals, full service spa, work-out room, pool and hot tub overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Cape Kiwanda headlands. There are many activities to do in the area, including visiting the newly renovated Tillamook Cheese Factory!
At the Headlands Lodge, there are two accessible rooms with roll-in showers. Unit 201 is on the main level and includes an entry nook. The other accessible room is Unit 101, which is a lower level requiring use of an elevator and does not include the entry nook. The pictures on Headlands Lodge and Spa are from Unit 201. Both are otherwise identical.
One of the first things we noticed was the very wide hallways in the room. This is great for a power wheelchair to travel through and provides ample turning radius into the bathroom. There is also ample space for a wheelchair in the bathroom, on both sides of the King size bed and the space at the foot of the bed for turning.
The view of the ocean is spectacular. However, we felt that there was too much furniture in the “living area” to truly allow me to enjoy the view or, in the evening, to enjoy the television and fireplace. Additionally, the balcony is 1/2-step lower then the room, making it difficult for a wheelchair user to enjoy the balcony.
Bathroom
As mentioned earlier, the bathroom is spacious. The double sink is lower, which allows a wheelchair user to use the sink. There is enough space to maneuver a power wheelchair to transfer to the ADA toilet. The biggest issue was the shower. There was a bench to sit on, however because of the dimensions of the double sink, there is barely enough space to drive the wheelchair into the shower area. Additionally, there is no light in the shower itself. A guest must either leave the shower curtain on the East side of the shower open to allow for additional light OR open the curtain on the West side of the shower, thus exposing the shower and bathroom to the living area.
Other Unique Room Features
The room is equipped with an iPad. This allows guests to request services such as reservations for the restaurant, spa services, etc. Guests can also make special requests and the front desk will contact the guest via text message or cell phones. There is also some music and other media to enjoy, if desired.
There is a blue-tooth speaker located in the room. It is the lamp located next to the fireplace. The speaker is not the best I have ever heard but it does provide ample sound to enjoy your favorite music.
The room with the entry nook includes two televisions with remote. There is a television in the nook as well as the living area above the fireplace.
Conclusion
This is a great place to stay for your vacation. There is a paved sidewalk from the lodge to the road, allowing guests to safely travel to nearby Pelican Brew Pub, market and coffee shop.
Enjoy your vacation!!
