Anyone who is a fan of the Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit should definitely consider this amazing attraction in New Zealand! This attraction appears exactly as in the movies and this guided tour will allow guests to hear stories from where famous scenes were filmed, see the breath-taking detail of each Hobbit hole and enjoy a beer at the end of the tour.
Guests with disabilities are required to inform Hobbiton prior to arrival to ensure proper accommodations can be provided. Additionally, we recommend to call a few days prior to ensure everything is set up correctly. The management team will make every effort of accommodating guests who are disabled. We were impressed with the dedication of the staff to help me get the best tour possible.
After checking in for your tour, which is located at the gift shop, guests board a tour bus and travel approximately 15 minutes to the actual movie set. The tour bus is not wheelchair accessible. If you are not able to climb steps to the bus, you can drive behind the bus to the movie set using your own vehicle. The road is paved but narrow. Upon arrival guests who have limited mobility will be seated on a golf cart (with a guide) to get around the movie set. Another staff member will take your mobility device (wheelchair/walker/etc.) to The Shire, where the tour ends. Guests will become separated from the rest of the group however you will receive your own private tour. One family member or caregiver can travel in the golf cart as well. As the tour ends, you are reunited with your mobility device and can enjoy time at the Shire. Each guest receives a FREE beer or cider, and snacks are available for purchase. Other guests take the bus back to the gift shop. We were able to load into our vehicle at The Shire and drive back to the gift shop to meet others in our party.
