The Lodge at Tiburon, Tiburon, CA
July, 2015
The Lodge at Tiburon is a wonderful hotel. The accessible suite is spacious for a powered wheelchair and there were no problems navigating the room.
There is an outdoor patio which has a ramp and is rather steep. The pictures do not show this well, so it is important to point this out. From the outdoor patio, there is a short distance to the accessible parking and the front desk/restaurant. The facility does provide accessible parking space.
This hotel does have a suite with roll-in shower. The bathroom seemed to be pretty cramped especially for a larger wheelchair. Notice the pocket door to enter/exit the bathroom. This is a fantastic feature! A wheelchair user would need to use the shower space to allow more room for turning around. Otherwise, a wheelchair user would need to back straight out of the bathroom.
There is no "lip" to separate the shower area from the rest of the bathroom and the same floor material is used throughout. As a result, it can be very wet and slippery throughout the entire bathroom. We do recommend ordering extra towels and you may need to mop up the water.
The hotel met all of our needs for accessibility. The staff was exceptional, and asked if we were comfortable and if the room met our needs. If I were to return to Tiburon, I would stay at The Lodge.
Please note there is a ferry close by that will take you to San Francisco and Angel Island. To visit Alcatraz, which is 100% accessible, one needs to take the ferry from Tiburon to San Francisco and travel approximately 1/2 mile to catch the ferry to Alcatraz.
