Whale Watching with “Orca Spirit Adventures”, Victoria, Canada

Located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Orca Spirit is one of the many companies that offers a whale watching experience and other tour packages. Prior to arrival, I called Orca Spirit to determine if the vessel could accommodate a powered wheelchair. After being told that the vessel would accommodate a wheelchair, we purchased a whale watching package.
Upon arrival it was quickly determined that Orca Spirit was not at all accessible. Three steps were required to board the vessel. I was removed from my wheelchair and the Orca Spirit team lifted me onto the boat. We did determine a way to get me on-board to enjoy the adventure…but it was an experience for all. My powered wheelchair was left at the dock. They informed me that their reservation center provided me with incorrect information and they do not normally accommodate people that cannot climb steps.
I am thankful that the staff at Orca Spirit were accommodating and patient. It was an unforgettable experience.
I would not recommend Orca Spirit for whale watching if an individual is confined to a wheelchair and cannot climb steps.
