The Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast, is one of the World Heritage Sites that people should definitely see. The only company that makes this a possibility for those with physical disabilities is Quicksilver Cruises.

Travelers take the Quicksilver Cruises' catamaran from Port Douglas and travel nearly 50 miles to the outer barrier reef.  Their large platform on the Reef allows guests to snorkel or scuba dive and they provide lunch. The platform has two levels: one deck that adjoins the catamaran and a lower deck located at the waters' surface. A ramp connects the two levels, which is extremely steep!! Guests with mobility devices should seek assistance from a family member or staff member.

Quicksilver Cruises provides a chair-lift which assists guests with physical disabilities. There are plenty of professional staff and lifeguards on board who are available to assist.

On a final note it is strongly recommended that guests not take a powered wheelchair. The bathrooms are very small and will not accommodate a powered wheelchair. Phoenix Healthcare located in Cairns will rent and deliver a manual wheelchair to your lodging.

This is the chair lift that lowers guests into the ocean. There is a place for a disabled guest to sit once lowered, so a family member or caregiver can assist with gear and snorkeling.
