Ramada Resort
October 23-30, 2015

The Ramada Resort, which also participates with WorldMark, is a great example of a very functional accessible room. There is a very spacious entry area, kitchen, living area, bedroom and bathroom. There were no issues navigating within the room itself.

Within the bathroom the floor seemed to have a continuous grain, almost like small rocks throughout the entire bathroom. In our opinion, there is ample traction and someone with limited mobility should have very little issues with slipping.

The only critique regarding the room itself was the actual door into the unit. In the United States, doors are at least 3 feet wide which converts to approximately 92 centimeters. However the door to get into the unit was only about 2 feet, or about 61 centimeters. This meant I had to ensure I was going inside exactly straight or else I would hit the door jam.

Aside from the room itself, the rest of the resort was accessible. There is ample accessible parking close to our accessible unit and there were ramps throughout the property. The tables within the restaurant/bar area were at a good height and I could fit under them with little issue.

There is one aspect of the resort that can be improved. Gates separate the room units from the pool and restaurant area. This require assistance as I could not reach the latch for the gate. The latch was likely placed in such a way to be out of reach for children. For someone using a wheelchair it is impossible to reach the gate handle.

Finally, the staff was always friendly and willing to assist. Don't be afraid to ask for some assistance if you need it. If I return to the State of Queensland, we will definitely stay at the Ramada Resort again.
